Kaspersky
Anti-Virus (KAV) für Windows Workstations S.O.S. (Second Opinion Solution)
Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 is a Windows based application for business users. This application is recommended for use on workstations on which fully functional anti-virus software of another vendor is installed. This application does not include components responsible for the real-time protection which allows to avoid conflicts when running simultaneously with the main anti-virus you are using. Kaspersky Lab does not recommend using Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 as the only anti-virus protection software on your computer as it does not ensure comprehensive protection of your computer against malware.
Notes on the operation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 on workstations with another vendor's anti-virus software installed:
If the main anti-virus detected an infected file in the real-time protection mode and blocked access to it, the following will happen when you run a full system scan task using Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0:
- Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 will attempt to open the infected file to scan it.
- The real-time protection module of the main anti-virus application will block access to the infected file. Therefore Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 will not be able to open it.
- The report will contain information stating that this file is not accessible.
Therefore, when comparing the results of the scan performed by two anti-virus application - the main anti-virus application and Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 - the user may have a feeling that the Kaspersky Lab's application was not able to detect viruses detected by the main anti-virus application.
However, this is not true. In order to ensure a correct comparison of the operation of the two anti-virus applications, you should disable the real-time protection feature of the main anti-virus application while Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 is running.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0 ensures correct processing of infected files that have not been detected by the main anti-virus application.
